The door slams, the house shakes, the baby wakes, the parents erupt.
Every summer we go through this. I think I finally found the answer. It is beautiful (notice the evil grin).
This sign alone did not do the trick. This is where I made my mistake last summer. But NOW I have found the missing piece to go with "Do Not Slam The Door". And this missing piece is worth more than it's thousand words. Here it is:
This is my treasure of the day!
Hope and Sage went out to play (well, really they were forced to go outside to play because they were playing wildly inside.) and oh-so-very-gently closed the door! It is the FIRST time ever!
I put the notice up yesterday, and they each got locked out. They were not impressed, but the good news is, they were motivated to learn how to close the door gently. (Insert me blissfully smiling).
This summer I have tried to be very pro-active in creating structure for the kids. My hope is that they will adjust to less structure from a lot of structure more easily that lots of structure to none at all. We are still in the process of getting used to the new "Summer Fun Routine", but at least it is in place and the kids have something to look forward to each day.
I also made some charts for the twins, and a social story book for Stevie.
Here is what I have come up with so far:
The Rainy Day page (since we started with RAIN this Summer!)
The RULES page!
The SCHEDULE PAGE!
The SOCIAL STORY:
And here's a toast to: A Good Summer!
So far, it has be rocky at best....but it's only been 2 days :)
